Weight Class Synopsis

Of the four top seeds, two placed third in 2020 (McClendon and Tassin) and two were runners-up (Boudreaux and Dugas).  Teurlings Catholic freshman Ethan Boudreaux lost 12-9 to freshman Isaac Dees of North Desoto last year, but he had a far better sophomore season.  He was 14-2 with a loss to Brother Martin's Division I runner-up Mason Elsensohn in December, which he avenged in the Louisiana Classic LACL) semifinals, and to Airline's Ernie Perry, III in the finals of that event.  He also won the Jacob McMillan Memorial over Parkway's David Viers.

Nicholas McClendon of Belle Chasse, a senior, lost to junior Daylon Dugas of Rayne 5-0 in the 2020 113 lbs. semifinals.  This season he was 8-2 with both losses coming from Elsensohn at the LACL, in which he placed third.  Dugas was also 8-2 but did not place at the LACL and thus was seeded lower than McClendon.  A semifinals rematch was likely in the bottom part of the bracket.

Shaw's Hayden Tassin was seeded fourth and brought a 12-2 record into the event, but those two losses were to Boudreaux and McClendon.  He had a chance to avenge both of them, but he would have to get past Boudreaux first.    That did not happen, but he did reach the consolation finals.  There he lost to Dugas in 0:25.  Rummel's Cole Curry (9-11) and Benton freshman Hayden Comeaux met in the fifth-place match, won but Curry in 1:58.

Finals

Top-seeded Ethan Boudreaux of Teurlings Catholic defeated second-seeded Nicholas McClendon of Belle Chasse via a 10-0 major decision.

Sonnier dominated this match from the start, scoring four points in the first period and five in the second, and deftly riding McClendon for about 4:30 of the match time.  The sole point McClendon scored was a stalling point, but that, of course, was added to Sonnier's score.
